By the numbers: U.S. bird flu outbreak in poultry

Minnesota has joined Wisconsin in declaring a state of emergency over an outbreak of bird flu in poultry that has led to the deaths of more than 7 million birds this year. Minnesota is also speeding up prescriptions of antiviral drug Tamiflu for farm workers and others who have been in direct contact with infected flocks. No infections have been reported in humans.

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Staff at Root Value, Lueken's Village Foods' new aquaponics greenhouse, gave a tour of the state-of-the-art facility on Wednesday. A new Bemidji state-of-the-art, ultra-efficient aquaponics greenhouse grows fruits and vegetables year round in water infused with the natural byproducts of 250 tilapia fish for nutrients, rather than soil and conventional fertilizer.
